Todays youths have developed a language so complex, it could stand alone as a dialect. Acronyms are generated by using the initial letter of each word in a phrase to form a new word in itself, e.g. OMG. With social media and messaging a prominent aspect of society, adults and those in older generations struggle to keep up with its speed and development. The dictionary highlights this overwhelming emotion experienced by adults when attempting to understand this foreign concept, in the form of a concertina; never-ending ‘explosion’ when revealing the content inside when opening. Throughout the project, traditional dictionary conventions will be experienced using a light hearted approach, with the reverse of the concertina relating to the context of acronyms—messaging.
